Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Becky at Page Turners. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.
Page 1, Sentence 1 of Shanghai Girls by Lisa See :
"Our daughter looks like a South China peasant with those red cheeks", my father complains, pointedly ignoring the soup before him. "Can't you do something about them?".
How did your current read begin? :)

Oh my. This is a subject that does interest me. Sounds like a very interesting book. I'm looking forward to seeing more!
Great first sentence! I've been wanting to read this. I really enjoyed Snow Flower and the Secret Fan but I haven't gotten to this one or Peony In Love yet. I hope you enjoy Shanghai Girls. I've heard really good things about it.

Wow, that's a great beginning! I'm pretty sure I've read a review of this book, but I totally forget what it's about. Hope you like it!
